Fuel poverty and disability

16 January 2009

As part of our continuing work pressing policy-makers to challenge disability poverty, Leonard Cheshire Disability is examining the issue of disability and fuel poverty.

This report draws together the evidence of the likelihood of experiencing fuel poverty, making the case as to why fuel poverty is a major issue for disabled people, and proposing some policy recommendations to help address it.

Just as reaching child poverty targets requires the government to look specifically to break the links between disability and poverty, so reaching targets on fuel poverty requires a stronger focus on disabled people.

Disabled people need to be at the very heart of policy-making in this area.
