Why should I choose the Royal Parks Half Marathon?
We believe this is THE half marathon of the annual running calendar but you don't have to take our word for it - the event was voted 'Best Newcomer 2008' and came 11th in the 'Best Run in the World' Poll both voted for by the readers of Runners World. It is relatively fast and flat, making it perfect for anyone new to running but also ideal for those wanting to try for a personal best. There will be a fantastic atmosphere on the day and we suggest you make a day of it by inviting friends and family to come and join our cheering point. There will be a warm up for all runners at the start line, as well as all the usual provisions you'd expect from a top quality half marathon, such as plenty of toilets and water stations and race marshalls on hand to help you at the start and finish. The Leonard Cheshire Disability Events Team will be there to welcome you over the finish line and help you celebrate your achievement after the race! How much is the registration fee and what does it cover?
The registration fee is £30 (before 4 June 2010, £40 thereafter) and covers the administration costs of the event, such as the running vest that we will provide you with, the fundraising and training support and the on-the-day support that we provide. How much do I have to raise?
We ask you to raise £350 for Leonard Cheshire Disability to help us to continue to support over 21,000 disabled people in the UK. Will Leonard Cheshire Disability help me with fundraising and training?
The Leonard Cheshire Disability Events Team will provide you with detailed fundraising and training guides. The newsletters that we send you will also include lots of fundraising hints and training ideas such as recipes for meals that will help you to get half marathon fit. In addition, we have secured support from running retailers Up & Running and sports injury specialists Pure Sports Medicine. Up & Running are giving a 10% discount in all their stores to Leonard Cheshire Disability runners, as well as a pair of free technical socks and free gait analysis to help you get kitted out for the big day! Pure Sports Medicine will be holding a training advice evening before the event to help all of our runners to avoid injury and make sure they're fit for the big day.
The Events Team are also available by telephone and email for a chat if you have a bad training day or are stuck with your fundraising, you can always give us a call. How do I register?
