ABI and Rehabilitation Services

Leonard Cheshire Disability’s Acquired Brain Injury units around the United Kingdom provide specialist rehabilitation services for people who have sustained an injury to their brain, usually as a result of accident or illness. Through a multidisciplinary team approach our teams of Rehabilitation staff deliver individualised rehabilitation packages, designed to maximise the independence of our service users.

The teams providing the rehabilitation and care programmes typically consist of Team Leaders, Senior Rehabilitation Support Workers, Rehabilitation Support Workers and Therapy Co-ordinators. The programmes normally include Occupational therapy; Physiotherapy and Psychology and we employ senior professional practitioners. Their work is complemented by Therapy Coordinators who organise the timetable of the range of programmes. The aim of all our programmes is to increase the abilities of our service users by developing their skills in daily living, domestic and social activities. We also help them to engage in a return to education and training opportunities.

Fiona Duncan, Team Leader at the Transitional Rehabilitation Unit for People with a Brain Injury in Livingston, West Lothian says "one of the greatest satisfactions of working with people with acquired brain injuries is seeing the remarkable changes that can be achieved in the quality of their lives-it's a real team effort helping people achieve their full potential."

At Leonard Cheshire Disability we believe that our Rehabilitation Teams play a vital role alongside our clinicians in delivering quality programmes that significantly benefit from our service users.
