What to do next... Why do people choose to take part for Leonard Cheshire Disability?
To challenge themselves in order to improve the lives of disabled people. Every time a runner chooses to support us they are challenging negative misconceptions about disabled people and enabling more disabled people to live life their way. We have guaranteed Golden Bond places available to runners who are not sucessful in the public ballot or did not apply in time. Who can join the Leonard Cheshire Disability team?
We welcome registrations from individuals, groups wanting to run together, experienced runners and complete beginners. All participants must be aged 18 or over on marathon day. We welcome runners with their own place in the ballot as well as those looking for a Golden Bond place. What is a Golden Bond place?
A Golden Bond place is a guaranteed place in the London Marathon. These are places that Leonard Cheshire Disability buy from the London Marathon. How can I get one?
You can request an application form to apply for one of Leonard Cheshire Disability's Golden Bond places by clicking on the 'Resources' tab above and downloading an application form. What's the difference between a 'Runability' or 'standard' package and a 'Runability Plus' or 'VIP' package?
Both packages guarantee you a Golden Bond place in the Marathon. The Runability/standard package is our usual package, where you pay a registration fee of £100 and are required to raise a minimum of £1800 for Leonard Cheshire Disability. The Runability Plus package gives you a higher level of support but requires a £125 registration fee and a minimum sponsorship of at least £2800. If you think you can raise £4000+, you will receive even more benefits (see below). What support does Leonard Cheshire Disability offer to marathon participants?
It depends on the package you have chosen, but participants on both packages will be fully supported in both your training and fundraising in the months ahead with our informative training literature, a Marathon advice evening with experienced sports professionals advising runners on fitness, nutrition etc, experienced fundraising advice and team newsletters full of handy tips. We will be there on the day shouting your name as you progress around the course in the running vest we have sent you and we will provide a sports massage and plenty of refreshments when you finish. Participants who have chosen the Runability Plus package will also receive exclusive coaching sessions, direct online and offline access to an experienced personal trainer and an opportunity to see your money in action at one of our 500 service centres across the UK. If you pledge to raise £4000 or more, you will be offered one night's accommodation in a hotel close to the start line the night before the marathon, a power-breakfast and a thank you gift to help you with your training! What does Leonard Cheshire Disability expect in return?
There is a registration fee payable when we confirm your place on our team (£100 for a Runability place, or £125 for a Runability Plus place). This covers our organisational and administrative costs. It is not included in your sponsorship total and there is a strict no-refund or transfer policy if you are unable to take part due to injury or for any other reason. To recoup the cost of the guaranteed marathon places that we buy and to make money for the charity, Leonard Cheshire Disability encourages runners to raise a minimum of £1800 (£2800 for Runability Plus team members) in sponsorship. We ask that you don't apply for one of our places unless you are sure that you will be able to raise at least this amount. We are here to help you every step of the way with your fundraising and will provide a fundraising pack, materials to help you run fundraising events and collections and advice on drawing up a fundraising plan. What if I've never run a marathon before?
That's fine, in fact most of our team have never run a marathon before. Last year we helped 100 people to cross the finishing line through our comprehensive training advice and support. What is Own Place entry?
Runners who are successful in the ballot (opens 4 May, results announced September 2010) can still join our team. Should you run for us with your own place you will still recieve all the team benefits but there will be no minimum sponsorship required - we simply encourage runners with their own place to raise as much as they can for us. However, if you would like to take advantage of the benefits offered by the Runability Plus package, you can pledge to raise the £2800/£4000 minimum and receive all the extras! What happens if I get an injury?
Should you unfortunately have to pull out due to illness or injury you must contact us immediately. You will need to contact your sponsors and either forward any money raised to us, or return it to the sponsors, as they require. We will be happy to consider you for a place in next year's race or an alternative event. What to do next...
You can request to be emailed our application form and return it to us as soon as possible, or if you have any other questions please do not hesitate to call our Marathon Hotline on 0870 420 4301 or EMAIL US for more information.
