Bradford-on-Avon, Kennet & Avon Canal
Sunday 13th September 2009
Registrations 10.30am – 12.00 noon
Come and join in the fun at the Kennet & Avon Canal on Sunday 13th September to raise vital funds for Leonard Cheshire Disability, the UK’s largest disability charity, and The Waterways Trust.
The walk starts from the Canal Trust office by the lock and is set along the canal towpath and river bank in the centre of Bradford-on-Avon, where rowing, canoeing and fishing are all available with relevant permits.
The walk is a short distance from the Railway station and shopping centre and is situated partly in the Barton Farm Country Park which has been owned by Wiltshire County Council since 1971. At the end of the walk is a stunning Mediaeval Tithe Barn owned by English Heritage and is normally open to the public free of charge. This area is popular destination for outdoor pursuits for people of all ages and abilities and perfect for spotting wildlife.
The Kennet & Avon Canal Trust work in partnership with British Waterways and the riparian local authorities and has been in existence for over 40 years. It was formed to restore the closed Canal from Reading to Bristol as a "through" navigation and as a public amenity. Successful fund raising, campaigning and volunteer-work over many years were rewarded when Her Majesty the Queen reopened the canal in 1990. Further information about the work of the canal trust and local boat trips can be found at
